The Soil Water and Environmental Laboratory (SWEL) in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) works with faculty, staff and outside agencies to advance their research capabilities in analyzing soil, water, plant, and other environmental samples. We also offer opportunities for researchers and students to receive training and perform their own analyses at reduced rates.

Producing research-quality data through quality control and quality assurance procedures is fundamental for the success and sustainability of SWEL.  The overall objective of our quality system is to maintain structure and methods that track and document all steps of data generation from sample receipt to data reporting, as well as directing quality control procedures and limits which will ensure project specific data quality requirements are met.  Quality workflow systems are managed through the use of Lock Box Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).  Quality system documentation includes chain of custody (COC) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).  Quality control measures include laboratory control samples, duplicates, blanks, calibration verification, and spike samples.
