Heavy metal screening for urban agriculture
We offer inexpensive soil heavy metal screening for farms and gardens. Heavy metal screening is recommended for sites that are:
- Urban
- Industrial
- Within 10 feet of a current or former structure that was built before 1960, or
- Have an unknown history.
Soil samples for heavy metal screening are received the first week of each month, with results delivered by the end of the month. If you send your results later in the month they will be processed at the beginning of the following month. The cost is $18/ sample for heavy metal screening (As, Pb, Cd) or $33/sample for heavy metal + organic matter, pH, and nutrients (P,Ca,K). Your results will include an interpretation and recommendations (Example Report for heavy metals and nutrients).
For submission you can mail your samples to: Chelsea Whitacre 409 Kottman Hall, 2021 Coffey Rd, Columbus, OH 43210 - with a check made out to The Ohio State University. Samples will be disposed of within 30 days unless picked up or return delivery shipping included.
